- UNAM received two Golden Retrievers trained for detection and risk prevention as a federal donation.
- Rector Leonardo Lomelí Vanegas attended a March 5 demonstration at FES Iztacala and said the teams will help guarantee community safety.
- The dogs were integrated into UNAM’s Unidad Canina de Rescate y Detección within the university’s security directorate.
- The canine unit now counts 17 dogs, with 15 assigned to search and rescue and two to firearms and explosives detection.
- Security chief Josué Ángel González Torres outlined the training program and noted that dog–handler teams are a key preventive tool in high-traffic settings such as airports and schools.
