FDA Flags Class II Recall of Nearly 2,000 Items Linked to Gold Star Distributor in Three States

An inspection found rodent and bird contamination at the distributor’s Minneapolis facility.

Overview

  • The recall began on December 26 after the FDA documented unsanitary conditions, including rodent droppings, rodent urine and bird feces, at the site.
  • Roughly 2,000 affected products span foods, beverages, pet goods, cosmetics, household items and over-the-counter medicines, with examples such as Pringles, Nutella, Cheerios, Jolly Ranchers, Skittles, Gatorade and Coca-Cola.
  • The distribution scope is limited to retailers in Indiana, Minnesota and North Dakota, according to the FDA notice.
  • On January 22, the FDA classified the action as a Class II recall, indicating a risk of temporary or medically reversible health effects with a remote chance of serious harm.
  • Gold Star advised consumers who purchased affected items to destroy them, and the FDA posted detailed lists of implicated retailers and products on its website.
