Overview

  • Four people were killed and about 20 were shot during a Battery Creek High School alumni gathering at Willie’s Bar and Grill shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday.
  • No arrests have been made as investigators process DNA and ballistics, send shell casings and bullets to state labs, and work with the FBI to enhance interior and exterior video.
  • Sheriff P.J. Tanner says the shooting likely began as a dispute among two or three people who knew each other locally, and he urged anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers or the P3 app.
  • Officials and experts say the number of gunshot victims points to a high‑rate‑of‑fire weapon or an illegally converted handgun, though the exact firearm has not been confirmed.
  • Community responses include prayer vigils and calls for unity, while the bar’s owner rejects a councilman’s push to close the business and shifts attention to illegal weapons.
