FBI Joins Search for Missing Retired Air Force Major General in New Mexico

Officials urge public tips given medical issues that heighten concern for his safety.

  • Retired Maj. Gen. William Neil McCasland, 68, was last seen Feb. 27 around 11 a.m. near Quail Run Court NE in Albuquerque, with his clothing and direction of travel unknown.
  • The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office issued a Silver Alert and described him as 5 feet 11 inches tall, about 160 pounds, with blue eyes and white hair.
  • The FBI says it is assisting the sheriff’s office and New Mexico Search and Rescue; deputies report drone, K9 and helicopter searches and say there are no signs of abduction or other foul play.
  • Kirtland Air Force Base leadership says it is coordinating with local authorities as the search continues for McCasland, a former commander of the Phillips Research Site and the Air Force Research Laboratory.
