FAU to Host October Televised Debates for Florida Senate and Governor

Organizers say the events will give voters a statewide forum in two high-profile races with official nominees invited after the Aug. 18 primaries.

Overview

  • Decision 2026 announced that Florida Atlantic University will stage two statewide televised debates, with the U.S. Senate debate set for Oct. 13 and the governor debate set for Oct. 15, each airing 7–8 p.m. EST.
  • Alongi Media’s Phil Alongi Sr. and Phil Alongi II will serve as executive producers for both events.
  • Producers held coordination calls with Republican Party of Florida Chair Evan Power and Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried and will formally invite the primary winners after the Aug. 18 contests.
  • The debates come as the governor’s race is an open contest due to term limits and Republican Sen. Ashley Moody is running for election after her 2025 appointment, raising national interest in both matchups.
  • Decision 2026 partnered with academic, media, policy, and civic groups and says the events will offer voter information and student learning opportunities while giving candidates broad statewide exposure that could shape turnout and campaign narratives.
