Father Charged After Two-Year-Old Found Dead in Chertsey

Surrey Police say investigators are building a Major Crime Team case that will be tested at pre-trial hearings later this year.

Overview

  • Police found the body of a two-year-old girl at a Pyrcroft Road address in Chertsey following a welfare call on Thursday, June 25, and a 31-year-old man was taken into custody at the scene.
  • Kevin Kerjean, 31, has been charged with murder, rape of a child under 13 and sexual assault of a child under 13 and has been remanded in custody ahead of a pre-trial hearing set for September 14.
  • Surrey Police have confirmed the victim was Kerjean’s daughter and say officers believe the incident happened within a family setting; the force says it is not seeking anyone else in connection with the case.
  • The Home Office has confirmed Kerjean legally entered the UK, applied for EU Settled Status in December 2020, was granted leave to remain in March 2021 and later received an extension to March 2031.
  • The Major Crime Team is continuing forensic work and has asked the public to upload relevant CCTV or dashcam footage via the Major Incident Public Portal quoting Operation Northwall while a strong police presence remains on Pyrcroft Road and local residents have left floral tributes.
