Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-494 Near Highway 100 in Bloomington

Minnesota State Patrol plans a Sunday update as it investigates the early-morning collision.

Overview

  • A chain-reaction crash just before 4:20 a.m. Saturday began when a 25-year-old man driving a Honda CR-V and a 64-year-old man driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee made contact and a westbound semi then struck the Jeep.
  • Four people were involved: the 25-year-old driver and a 24-year-old passenger in the Honda, the 64-year-old driver of the Jeep, and a 49-year-old truck driver.
  • The State Patrol has classified the crash as fatal but has not said which person or people were killed or reported injured.
  • At the scene the Honda ended up near construction cones in the right lane and the Jeep came to rest facing the median in the left lane before the semi struck it.
  • Investigators will examine what caused the initial SUV contact and whether charges or citations follow, and the patrol’s expected Sunday release should provide key details on casualties and cause.
