Fast-Moving Brush Fire Near Fort Fun Sends Plume of Smoke Over I-25 in Fort Collins

Voluntary evacuations are in place to protect nearby residents as multi-agency crews work to contain the blaze.

Overview

  • Multiple 911 callers reported smoke in the 1200 block of East Mulberry Avenue on Thursday evening and firefighters established suppression operations near the Springer Natural Area west of Interstate 25.
  • Poudre Fire Authority joined other local agencies in a multi-agency response to a fast-moving fire burning through heavy brush and vegetation.
  • Larimer County issued voluntary evacuation notices for areas south of Highway 14 to Prospect Road and from Timberline Road east to Riverside/Lemay Avenue, and Fort Fun amusement park was evacuated as a precaution.
  • Thick smoke produced a large plume visible from I-25 and prompted police to advise motorists to avoid the area because of emergency activity and likely traffic delays.
  • No injuries have been reported and officials have not released a cause for the blaze as crews continue suppression work and prepare to assess containment and impacts.
