Fallout 4 Creations Update Released, Skyrim Patch Still Undated

Changing how Creations and assets are stored could force players to re-download content or wait for mod authors to issue fixes.

Overview

  • Bethesda released a Creations-focused Fallout 4 patch that landed on Tuesday, August 18 and includes technical changes such as increasing the BA2 archive limit from 256 to 1,024, new Creation Kit improvements, added support for external asset files, and several crash and stability fixes.
  • The update changes how Creations are stored per platform and on some consoles will clear installed Creations on first launch after the patch, requiring users to restore a saved load order or load a recent save to re-download content.
  • Bethesda advised players to log into a save or manually save their mod load order before updates so they can restore their Creations list if needed, and community members are urging others to back up saves and disable automatic updates until compatibility is confirmed.
  • Mod authors must update affected mods to restore compatibility, and outlets warn that some mods—especially older or abandoned projects and those relying on script extenders—may never be updated; early player reports of breakage have been mixed.
  • The update revisits a pattern of past Bethesda version changes that previously broke large mod collections, so expect staggered fixes, re-downloads and troubleshooting from players and modders over the coming days.
