Overview
- Head coach Kevin Stefanski, who outlined the plan Tuesday, said Tua Tagovailoa and Michael Penix Jr. will rotate first-team reps in drills while Penix stays out of 11-on-11 work.
- Penix is practicing in individual periods and 7-on-7 as he returns from a third ACL tear, and he said he feels like himself but cannot take hits yet.
- The next checkpoint is mandatory minicamp on June 16–18, when medical clearance could allow Penix into full team periods and a true side-by-side evaluation.
- Tagovailoa signed a one-year minimum deal in March after his release from Miami, and FanDuel lists him a slight Week 1 favorite at -120 with Penix at -106.
- The winner steps into an offense with Bijan Robinson, Drake London and Kyle Pitts under new coach Kevin Stefanski, which puts a premium on picking the right starter at the right time.
