Falcon Heavy Returns to Flight for ViaSat-3 F3 Launch Monday

The mission positions Viasat’s third high-capacity satellite to expand broadband over Asia-Pacific.

Overview

  • Falcon Heavy is scheduled to lift off Monday at 10:21 a.m. EDT from LC-39A in an 85-minute window with a 70% weather chance, according to the 45th Weather Squadron.
  • The side boosters B1072 and B1075 will attempt return landings at LZ-2 and the newer LZ-40, while center core B1098 will be expended in the Atlantic.
  • The six-metric-ton ViaSat-3 F3, built on Boeing’s 702 platform, is designed to add more than 1 terabit per second of Ka-band capacity for airlines, ships, homes, and government users across Asia-Pacific.
  • Payload separation is planned nearly five hours after liftoff, and electric propulsion will raise the orbit to the 158.55°E slot over about two months before service begins.
  • Viasat reassigned F3 from Ariane 6 to Falcon Heavy due to European launcher delays and a crowded manifest, marking Falcon Heavy’s 12th flight after an 18-month gap.
