- Delegates at an Extraordinary General Meeting in Dublin on Wednesday voted 75 to 32 with three abstentions to endorse the FAI board’s motion to fulfil the two Nations League fixtures against Israel.
- The FAI has arranged the fixtures to be played at neutral venues with the away tie in Debrecen, Hungary on 27 September and the ‘home’ game moved to Bačka Topola, Serbia on 4 October to be played behind closed doors.
- The board warned that refusing to play could trigger automatic 3-0 forfeits, likely relegation in the Nations League and potential exclusion from future UEFA and FIFA competitions, with an estimated €10.3 million hit to FAI finances.
- Economist Ciarán Nugent and campaigners have publicly disputed the €10.3 million figure as an overestimate, and the players’ union, clubs and supporter groups continue to press for a boycott and have threatened legal action.
- FAI chief executive David Courell has said the fixtures will be fulfilled regardless of the vote, leaving the decision operationally in the hands of the executive and keeping the spotlight on governance, player welfare and political pressure.
