Fadnavis Sets Oct. 15 DPR Deadline for Wainganga–Nalganga Link, Will Seek 25% Central Funding

Fadnavis plans to seek 25% central support following higher cost estimates.

Overview

  • The State-level Technical Advisory Committee has been asked to examine the plan and ensure the detailed project report is submitted by October 15.
  • Survey work for the first phase from Gosikhurd to Lower Wardha is complete, with construction to begin only after environmental clearance.
  • Recent reporting pegs the project cost near Rs 98,000 crore, up from the earlier estimate of Rs 88,575 crore, a gap expected to be addressed in the DPR.
  • The 426.52-km scheme proposes lifting about 62.57 TMC from the Gosikhurd reservoir via a roughly 388-km link to the Nalganga basin to irrigate approximately 3.7–4 lakh hectares.
  • Targeted districts include Bhandara, Nagpur, Wardha, Amravati, Yavatmal, Akola, Washim and Buldhana, aligning the project with the state's Vision 2047 development push.
