Overview
- The Federal Aviation Administration announced Thursday that it will distribute $481 million through 191 Airport Infrastructure Grants to airports in 36 states and two territories.
- Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport will receive $100 million to rebuild runways, repair taxiways, upgrade terminals and improve runway safety areas.
- Other large awards include $32.5 million for Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport, $30.3 million for San Diego International Airport, $14.2 million for Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport, and $8.7 million for El Paso International Airport.
- Federal officials said the grants fund a range of projects such as runway and taxiway repairs, baggage system and terminal work, and airport road projects but they have not released construction schedules or estimates of possible flight disruptions.
- The grants come from the IIJA-created Airport Infrastructure Grants program that authorized $14.5 billion over five years and will move next to local airport planning and procurement processes that will determine when and how the work is carried out.
