F1 Cancels Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix Over Security Risks

A formal FIA assessment found conditions in the Middle East could not guarantee safe events.

Overview

  • The April 10–12 Bahrain and April 17–19 Jeddah rounds are canceled without replacements, creating a gap between Japan (Mar 27–29) and Miami (May 1–3) and reducing the season to 22 races.
  • Support categories are affected as the F2, F3 and F1 Academy rounds scheduled for those weekends are also canceled.
  • F1 evaluated alternatives such as Portimão, Imola, Istanbul and a potential Japan double‑header but deemed them unworkable due to timing and logistics.
  • Local promoters in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia publicly endorsed the decision and expressed readiness to host again when conditions permit.
  • The FIA also postponed the World Endurance Championship opener in Qatar to late October due to the same regional security concerns.
