- The National Weather Service issued an extreme heat watch for Metro Phoenix for Monday through Wednesday, Aug. 17–19, forecasting daytime highs at or above 110°F and little nighttime relief.
- Maricopa County has confirmed 63 heat-related deaths this year and is investigating more than 500 additional possible heat-related fatalities, prompting urgent public-health warnings.
