Ex-Nursery Worker Vincent Chan Sentenced to 18 Years for 56 Sexual Offences

Parents of victims have begun legal action against Bright Horizons over alleged safeguarding failures.

Overview

  • A judge at Wood Green Crown Court imposed an 18-year prison term on the 45-year-old, followed by eight years on licence, calling his conduct "absolutely evil, perverse and depraved."
  • Metropolitan Police said the offending spanned 2008 to 2024, with victims ranging from toddlers to a woman in her 70s.
  • Investigators seized Chan’s devices and found around one million indecent images, after an initial arrest on suspicion of child neglect led to wider charges.
  • Chan previously worked at St. Mary’s Church of England School in Finchley, where he secretly filmed girls, and his offending escalated after joining Bright Horizons in 2017.
  • Bright Horizons reported concerns to police in May 2024 and says it is strengthening escalation routes for staff, and reporting in one outlet said its West Hampstead site has closed.
