Ex-Neighbor Charged With Murder in Killing of 93-Year-Old North Philly Man

Investigators cite video showing an entry into the home followed by a departure in the victim’s car.

Overview

  • Police identified the victim as Lafeyette Dailey, 93, and arrested Coy Thomas, 53, on Dec. 14 at 22nd and Lehigh Avenue.
  • Thomas is charged with murder, robbery, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and related offenses, and is being held without bail in Montgomery County Prison.
  • An autopsy found Dailey died of stab wounds, with injuries including chest lacerations and head trauma.
  • There were no signs of forced entry as the home was ransacked, investigators say, and Dailey’s wallet, keys, and 2007 Chrysler 300 were taken.
  • Authorities say Thomas sold the car and attempted to use Dailey’s credit card; the vehicle was recovered via license plate data, the case was upgraded to a homicide, and no motive has been released ahead of a Dec. 29 preliminary hearing.
