Ex-Labour Councillor Liron Velleman Given Suspended Sentence for Online Child Sex Offences

He was caught in a Metropolitan Police undercover operation after sending explicit messages plus a video to a profile he thought was 13.

Overview

  • Southwark Crown Court imposed an eight-month prison term suspended for 15 months, with Judge James Lofthouse delivering sentence on Friday.
  • The sentence includes 180 hours of unpaid work, 20 rehabilitation days, placement on the Sex Offenders Register, a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, £150 in costs and a £187 victim surcharge.
  • Prosecutors said Velleman used the alias "Tim Graham 95" to contact an officer posing as a 13-year-old on Chatib in December 2024 before moving the chat to Snapchat.
  • The court heard he solicited images, discussed sexual activity, sent photos of himself in underwear and transmitted a short video of an erect penis.
  • Velleman pleaded guilty in February, resigned his Barnet council seat after his arrest, engaged with the Stop It Now service, and the court was told his wife left and contact with his young son is supervised.
