Ex-Headteacher Dean Juric Given Suspended Term in Child Abuse Images Case

The judge said his rehabilitation prospects justified suspending the jail term.

Overview

  • Newcastle Crown Court imposed an eight-month sentence suspended for 18 months, with 150 hours of unpaid work and 40 days of rehabilitation, plus 10 years on the sex offenders register and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
  • Juric pleaded guilty to three counts relating to making/downloading indecent images of children and one count of distributing an indecent image.
  • He was arrested after an undercover officer engaged him online, during which he shared images and expressed sexual interest in schoolgirls, including messages such as “Schoolgirl,” “perfect age,” and “Love young girls.”
  • Court evidence said officers found 54 Category A images, 36 Category B images and 290 Category C images on his phone, while reports differ on the overall volume with many additional images left uncategorized.
  • Bishop Wilkinson Catholic Education Trust said it suspended Juric, cooperated with police and referred him to teaching authorities, adding there was no indication the images involved pupils at his school.
