Overview
- Thomas Kwan pleaded guilty at Newcastle Crown Court to an earlier attempted murder scheme involving poisoned alcohol sent to Patrick O’Hara.
- Prosecutors said Kwan created a fictitious Northern Wine and Drinks Tasting Gentlemen’s Club and sent between 18 and 21 bottles from September 2022 to January 2024.
- Two recovered bottles contained poison and evidence showed a third, laced with thallium, made O’Hara ill; some bottles were genuine to build trust.
- O’Hara gifted one tainted bottle to Torquil Gundlach, who became unwell and was found to have been exposed to thallium; Kwan admitted administering a noxious substance to him.
- Kwan is already serving a minimum 31 years and five months for a separate 2024 attack in which he injected O’Hara with iodomethane while disguised as a community nurse, and he was struck off the medical register in September.
