Europe-Wide Speedweek Starts Monday With 24-Hour Blitzermarathon on Wednesday

Police say the high-visibility checks are meant to cut deadly crashes by curbing speed.

Overview

  • ROADPOL’s Speedweek runs April 13–19 with the 24-hour “Blitzermarathon” on Wednesday, and all German states except Saarland are joining.
  • Bavaria has released a full list of about 1,570 checkpoints and will field roughly 2,000 staff from 6 a.m. Wednesday through 24 hours.
  • Police will focus on autobahns, federal roads and risk spots near schools, hospitals and construction zones using mobile radar, video vans and hand-held lasers.
  • Hesse will publish its checkpoints in advance and plans to stop drivers on the spot on Wednesday to explain the dangers of speeding.
  • Drivers face standard fines, points and possible bans for speeding, and using active radar‑warning features while driving is illegal with a €75 fine and one point.
