Europe Sets Late-November Records for Gas Storage Withdrawals as Inventories Lag 2024 Levels

Prices fell this autumn despite record storage withdrawals.

Overview

  • GIE recorded the highest-ever daily withdrawals for November 24–26 across European storage sites.
  • Active stocks stood at 78.1 bcm on November 26, leaving inventories 10.6 bcm below the same date last year.
  • German storage was 68.5% full on November 26, down from 72% five days earlier, underscoring the rapid drawdown.
  • From November 15–27, Europe withdrew roughly 6 bcm from storage, about 8% more than the same period in 2024.
  • Gazprom warned that fast depletion is lowering storage deliverability and could pose supply risks in a cold snap, while autumn gas prices averaged about 16% lower near $382 per 1,000 m3 on strong LNG inflows and milder weather.
