Essen’s Parkleuchten Opens With New Ticketing and Tech-Driven Light Installations

A new flexible day-ticket system replaces date-specific sales.

Overview

  • The 16th edition runs January 24 to March 1 in Grugapark with illuminations activated at dusk and closing times of 21:00 Sunday–Thursday and 22:00 Friday–Saturday.
  • Day tickets are valid for one visit on any date during the event, with on-site sales limited to a single day box office at the main entrance from 16:00 and online purchase available.
  • New attractions include the traversable “String Balls,” a 24‑meter tunnel with 7,000 individually programmed LEDs, large lampions, and a six‑meter wire sculpture dubbed “Stuhl‑Sitzer.”
  • An interactive AI feature at the Orangerie presents “Paul,” a speaking puppy that engages visitors as part of this year’s technology focus.
  • Admission is €9 for adults and €3.50 for children aged 6–15, season‑pass holders enter free, and on Rosenmontag (February 16) entry for Parkleuchten begins at 16:00 despite the park’s general closure.
