Essen Police Release Bus CCTV Photos in Search for Two Suspects

A judge cleared the images for public release so officers can gather tips from witnesses to identify the men shown on Linie 145.

Overview

  • Police published stills from on-board cameras after winning judicial approval to find a man who allegedly attacked a 17-year-old on bus line 145 on February 25.
  • Officers also issued images for a separate March 14 case in which an older man is accused of rubbing his thigh against a 13-year-old passenger for several minutes.
  • Investigators ask anyone with information to call 0201/829-0 or email hinweise.essen@polizei.nrw.de and say the images are available on the police Fahndungsportal.
  • The suspect in the February 25 attack is described as about 180 cm tall, slim, black-haired and wearing a black hoodie with a blue backpack; the March 14 suspect is described as apparently over 50 with white‑gray hair, brown eyes, a stout build and carrying a reddish bag.
  • Both incidents raise local safety concerns on Linie 145 and show how fixed bus cameras and public appeals are being used to generate leads; no arrests have been reported so far.
