Escaped Prisoner Marwan Jumaa Arrested in Lancashire After Manchester Manhunt

The arrest ends a multi-force search launched when he fled custody during a hospital transfer and prompted urgent public safety warnings.

Overview

  • Jumaa absconded while being moved from a secure hospital unit to North Manchester Hospital on Tuesday evening and police circulated CCTV of him leaving the ward.
  • Greater Manchester Police issued an urgent public appeal quoting log 3544 of 14/07/2026 and warned the public not to approach him, deploying specialist teams to lead the search.
  • Court records and reporting show Jumaa pleaded guilty earlier this year to offences including robbery, assaulting emergency workers and grievous bodily harm and had been held partly in prison and a secure hospital setting.
  • Lancashire Constabulary officers located and arrested Jumaa following public tips and enquiries and Greater Manchester Police said he will be returned to a secure hospital facility while investigations continue.
  • Police thanked members of the public for information that helped trace Jumaa and said enquiries into the circumstances of his escape and the response that led to his capture remain ongoing.
