Escaped Liberty County Inmate Caught in Seattle After Two-Week Manhunt

A cellphone trace led U.S. Marshals to his Seattle-area construction job and he will be returned to Texas to face escape and possible threats charges.

Overview

  • U.S. Marshals located and arrested Yorlan Rafael Reyes in the Mukilteo/Seattle area at about 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday after a multi-jurisdictional search.
  • Reyes fled Liberty County custody from HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood on July 18, 2026 while receiving emergency treatment and had been held on a state-jail felony charge for unlawful disclosure of intimate images.
  • Investigators traced Reyes through Cleveland and the Houston area, developed a cellphone number they believed he was using, and turned that lead over to the U.S. Marshals who used it to pinpoint his location in Washington.
  • Authorities say Reyes allegedly sent threatening messages to Texas women, including content referencing their juvenile daughters, and those allegations are under investigation with possible new charges pending.
  • Liberty County fired the supervising correctional officer after an internal review found transportation and supervision policy violations and multiple local, state and federal agencies credited their partnership in the capture.
