Ernakulam Police Seize About 17–18 Kg of Suspected Hybrid Ganja and Arrest Two
Police say the consignment likely came from outside India and the case is being used to map a pyramid-style trafficking network

- A fortnight-long undercover probe, which culminated Wednesday, led Ernakulam Rural anti-narcotics teams to seize roughly 17–18 kg of suspected hybrid ganja and arrest two people identified as Ayush and his wife Anakha.
- Officers first recovered about 1.25 kg concealed on a scooter and then found approximately 16–16.5 kg in the couple’s rented flat in Kunnuvazhi after questioning the suspect.
- Ernakulam Range DIG G. H. Yathish Chandra said the consignment originated outside India, investigators already have leads on source and route, and details are being withheld as the probe develops.
- Police estimated the street value at around ₹18 crore and described the arrested couple as wholesalers, saying they are building a pyramid-style database to trace suppliers, wholesalers, retailers and users under Operation Toofan.
- Hybrid ganja is often smuggled into Kerala from countries such as Thailand and the police emphasis on network mapping signals a shift from only arresting street-level sellers to identifying higher-level organizers while offering de-addiction routes for users.
