Overview
- The European Research Council announced on 23 June 2026 that it has awarded €838 million to 319 senior researchers after a record 3,329 proposals, producing a 9.6% success rate.
- Grantees will be hosted across 24 EU member and associated countries, with the United Kingdom receiving the largest share at 62 awards followed by Germany, Switzerland, Spain, and France.
- The results show growing internationalisation: 33 nationalities were represented, 13 winners are based outside Europe and seven will use ERC ‘Choose Europe’ relocation funding to move labs to Europe.
- Three University College Dublin projects were confirmed as winners, with REVOLVER and PanAsia each receiving €2.5 million and ALMERS awarded €3,665,546, and each project named its lead investigator.
- The grants cover life sciences, physical sciences, mathematics and humanities, are expected to create more than 3,000 research jobs across Europe, and the ERC has opened the next Advanced Grants call through 27 August 2026.
