ePlane Partners With NVIDIA to Build Digital Twin for India’s First Electric Air Taxi

The effort uses Omniverse to validate edge cases virtually to reduce risky physical testing.

Overview

  • Announced on Feb. 19 at the India AI Impact Summit, the tie-up will create a high-fidelity e200x digital twin in NVIDIA Omniverse using NVIDIA GPUs and foundation models for large-scale simulation.
  • ePlane will deploy NVIDIA IGX as the onboard computing platform to run mission-critical applications that fuse camera and radar data for real-time decision-making.
  • Large virtual flight campaigns are planned to train autonomy over millions of kilometres, covering extreme weather, sensor failures, and collision scenarios without physical risk.
  • The digital twin is designed to serve as a predictive maintenance engine by mirroring aircraft components to forecast potential failures and reduce downtime.
  • ePlane, incubated at IIT Madras, says it holds India’s first DOA for a private electric aircraft and has opened a 60,000‑sq‑ft Chennai facility, with physical flight testing and commercial operations still to come.
