Epic Sets April 16 Free-to-Play Relaunch for Fortnite’s Save the World

Epic frames the shift with sign-up rewards, owner compensation, alongside a V‑Bucks price hike to recalibrate its ecosystem.

Overview

  • Pre‑registration is live with community milestones at 300,000, 700,000 and 1,000,000 signups, with the top tier granting the Snowstrike Hero exclusive to Save the World.
  • Epic has removed the paid listing and halted new purchases as of March 11 at 8 p.m. ET, with existing owners retaining access until the free launch.
  • Founders keep existing V‑Bucks earning routes via Daily Quests, Mission Alerts, Storm Shield Defense Missions and Challenges.
  • Current players will receive Superchargers, a Hero Recruitment Voucher, a Weapon Research Voucher and 10,000 Gold on April 16.
  • The mode will be free on PS4/PS5, Xbox One/Series X|S, Windows PC, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Cloud Gaming, GeForce Now and Amazon Luna, with smartphones, tablets and the original Switch excluded.
