Epic Announces Ground-Up Rebuild Roadmap for Epic Games Store and Launcher

Presented slides signal a push to close long-standing feature gaps with faster launcher performance, written reviews, player profiles, and a rearchitected storefront.

Overview

  • Epic presented a developer roadmap at Unreal Fest that was photographed and shared on Reddit on June 18 showing plans for a ground-up rebuild of the Epic Games Store and the Epic Games Launcher.
  • The roadmap lists near-term “Up First” work expected within about a year, including storefront rearchitecture, in-store patch notes, pre-registration for free-to-play titles, cross-region gifting, a private launcher V2 beta, and chunked installs for Fortnite.
  • Later items on the slide deck promise written user reviews, player profiles that show owned games and achievements, community/forum features, search and discovery improvements, and a public release of the redesigned launcher and store.
  • One slide claims the new launcher will cold-start about five times faster, but most items remain unshipped and the details are provisional because reporting is based on shared presentation images rather than a formal public release.
  • The rebuild is framed as a catch-up move to add features long present on Steam and, if delivered, could improve discovery and performance for players while testing Epic’s ability to execute after prior heavy investment and company restructuring.
