EPFO to Launch Aadhaar-Based E-PRAAPTI to Unlock Dormant PF Accounts

The launch signals a pivot to self-service PF access.

Overview

  • The EPFO, which announced the E-PRAAPTI portal on Wednesday, said members will use Aadhaar to find and reactivate old provident fund accounts that do not have a Universal Account Number.
  • Users will be able to update their profiles and seed a UAN on their own, removing the need for employer sign-offs for these steps.
  • The rollout starts with a member ID-driven phase and will later add help for people who cannot recall or access their old member IDs.
  • EPFO said its existing portal will go offline for one to two days to migrate data and services to the new system.
  • EPFO counts 3.183 million inoperative accounts holding Rs 10,181 crore, and it processed a record 83.1 million claims in FY26 as automation sped up advance withdrawals and reduced paperwork.
