EPFO Portal Relaunched; UAN Onboarding Shifted to Government UMANG App

EPFO says the change tightens identity checks to speed member verification on a centralized government platform.

Overview

  • The EPFO has restored its Unified Member Portal after a multi-day technology upgrade and says the new site has a redesigned interface and security improvements to make services faster and more reliable.
  • UAN activation and new UAN generation have been removed from the EPFO website and now must be completed only through the UMANG mobile app using Aadhaar face authentication to verify identity.
  • Core claim services such as death and pension claims remain available on the EPFO portal, with document rules that accept PDF files only, limit each file to 2 MB, and prohibit spaces in file names.
  • The upgraded portal adds an easier UAN-recovery process that uses a registered mobile number, OTP verification and upload of identity or address proof to retrieve lost or forgotten UANs.
  • Members should ensure their Aadhaar is linked, their registered mobile number and KYC details are up to date because the shift increases reliance on smartphones, Aadhaar linkage and biometric verification for onboarding and access.
