EPFO Credits 8.25% Interest to 34–35 Crore Accounts After CITES Rollout

CITES 2.01 compressed months of reconciliation into days, enabling automated interest posting and faster claim settlement across the national database.

Overview

  • The EPFO began crediting the approved 8.25% annual interest for FY2025-26 on July 15, with officials saying roughly 34–35 crore member accounts received payments totaling about Rs 1.44 lakh crore.
  • The organisation completed a migration from 123 regional databases into a single CITES national database that moved about 1,700 crore records and finished at the end of June.
  • The upgraded CITES 2.01 platform raised auto-processed claims to about 83% and allows eligible withdrawal applications submitted early in the day to be settled the same day.
  • The new system helped clear a large backlog, with EPFO processing a record 11 lakh claims worth roughly Rs 3,000 crore in one day and promising remaining pending claims would be cleared soon.
  • Members should expect phased passbook updates and occasional visibility lags as the rollout stabilises, while the centralised platform aims to reduce rejections, speed transfers and shift staff focus to complex legacy cases.
