Overview
- Manuel Alejandro Moreno Serna, known as Alex Serna, was reported missing on June 20 and his family formally identified his remains this week after authorities said a body was located days later.
- State Fiscalía sources and local news say the corpse was found on June 22 inside a blue plastic drum beside the Acapulco–Zihuatanejo highway between Coyuquilla Norte and Arroyo Seco and was taken to the Semefo in Zihuatanejo as an unidentified decedent.
- Forensic doctors have not yet released a public cause of death and no arrests or official suspect lines have been reported by the Fiscalía at the time of the identification.
- Serna had used social media and public records to allege illegal operation, lack of environmental permits and unauthorized water use by a mango-dehydrating plant and he reported digital attacks and direct death threats earlier this year.
- The state human-rights commission confirmed the death, called for prompt, thorough investigations, and civil-society groups have demanded accountability given Guerrero’s pattern of violence and impunity against journalists and activists.
