Environment Canada Warns 30–50 mm of Rain for Parts of Southern Ontario

A low-pressure system north of Lake Erie is driving heavy rain that will taper to drizzle from west to east by Sunday morning.

Overview

  • Environment Canada has issued a weather alert for parts of southern Ontario forecasting 30 to 50 millimetres of rain for today and tonight.
  • The system is centered north of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario and will move eastward so rainfall changes to drizzle first in extreme southwestern Ontario early this evening and near eastern Lake Ontario by Sunday morning.
  • No province-wide flood watches or warnings have been issued but 30–50 mm of rain can cause localized flooding and faster runoff in low-lying, urban and shoreline areas.
  • Residents are urged to consult their local Conservation Authority or the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources for flood guidance and the provincial floods page at ontario.ca/page/floods for region-specific updates.
  • Environment Canada asks the public to monitor forecasts and to report severe weather observations by emailing ONstorm@ec.gc.ca or posting on X with the hashtag #ONStorm to help verification and situational awareness.
