Eni Announces Calao South Discovery, Côte d’Ivoire’s Second-Largest Gas Find

A drill-stem test will gauge flow potential to inform appraisal.

Overview

  • The Murene South-1X well, the first exploration well in Block CI-501, delivered the discovery within the Calao channel complex.
  • Eni estimates up to 5.0 trillion cubic feet of gas and 450 million barrels of condensate, equivalent to roughly 1.4 billion barrels of oil.
  • Saipem’s Santorini drillship drilled to about 5,000 meters in 2,200 meters of water and logged roughly 50 meters of hydrocarbon-bearing intervals after an extensive data program.
  • Block CI-501 is operated by Eni with a 90% stake alongside Petroci Holding with 10%.
  • Nearby, Eni’s Baleine field currently produces more than 62,000 barrels of oil and over 75 million cubic feet of gas per day, with Phase 3 targeting about 150,000 barrels of oil and 200 million cubic feet of gas per day.
