Overview
- England Lions selectors confirmed the 20-player squad on Monday, September 7, for IT20 fixtures against Sri Lanka at Chelmsford on Sept. 11 and Beckenham on Sept. 13.
- Jonathan Trott will act as interim head coach for both matches and will be supported by Troy Cooley, Graeme Swann, Ravi Bopara and Carl Hopkinson.
- Six players named to the Lions — including Tom Banton, James Coles, Aneurin Donald, Will Jacks, Jamie Overton and Saqib Mahmood — also sit in England’s senior white-ball squads and will use the games for final match practice.
- The 20-player group blends experience and youth, with three Young Lions who reached the Under-19 World Cup final (Caleb Falconer, Ben Mayes and Joe Moores) included to accelerate their progression.
- Several senior players in the group are returning from recent injuries or illness, so fitness checks ahead of the Lions games will shape final availability for the senior Vitality IT20 series that begins Sept. 15.
