- Many households have started receiving a small indoor 5–7L kitchen caddy, a larger lockable outdoor food caddy and a roll of optional liners for weekly kerbside food collections.
- The Simpler Recycling law requires all English local authorities to collect food waste from kerbsides weekly from March 2026 to create a consistent four‑stream system.
- Accepted items include cooked and uncooked food, meat and fish (including bones), dairy and eggshells, fruit and vegetable peelings, bread, rice, pasta, tea bags and coffee grounds.
- Households must not put liquids, oils or fats, any packaging, non‑specified compostable plastics, garden waste, glass, metal, nappies or general rubbish in the food caddies.
- Around one‑third of councils say they will stagger delivery schedules because existing waste contracts and supplier or vehicle shortages delay rollouts, which is causing differing local guidance and public confusion.
