ENAC Suspends Oliva’s Pilot License After New Landing at Maniva Ski Area

The civil aviation authority says repeated landings near ski slopes jeopardized safety.

Overview

  • ENAC issued a precautionary suspension on December 29 following another helicopter landing by Bortolo Giorgio Oliva at the Maniva Ski area on December 28–29.
  • The decision is part of an administrative proceeding opened on December 18 tied to the December 13 landing near the ski domain that lacked required authorizations.
  • Carabinieri reached and identified Oliva on the slopes, and although he had notified authorities and cited a private-area authorization for the latest flight, the suspension proceeded.
  • ENAC stated the conduct created a prejudice to flight safety and to the safety of people in high-traffic tourist zones, underscoring the need to respect aeronautical rules.
  • Earlier episodes include a €2,000 fine in April over an unauthorized flight above 1,600 meters near Madonna di Campiglio and a 2020 crash that led to an eight‑month suspended sentence in 2023.
