Overview
- Kentucky State Police say a single-vehicle crash near the 860 block of Bewley Hollow Road overturned into a flooded creek Saturday night and trapped three people inside the vehicle.
- First responders from KSP, the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office and local fire crews entered the creek to rescue the occupants and transported them to an Elizabethtown hospital.
- One juvenile passenger was transferred to Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead, while a second juvenile and the driver were treated for minor injuries and released.
- The driver, 44-year-old David Rhodes of Elizabethtown, was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and first-degree assault, and authorities say more criminal charges may be forthcoming.
- Heavy rainfall and widespread flooding at the time left the car partially submerged and complicated the rescue, and the ongoing KSP investigation will determine any additional charges and details about the crash.
