Overview
- Fire crews responded around 1 a.m. Sunday to a blaze near 63rd and Peoria avenues and found the husband outside while the woman was rescued from inside, taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead.
- Firefighters battled flames for hours and by about 7 a.m. crews had boarded damaged sections of the home and left the structure covered in soot.
- An on-scene fire mitigation team said the fire appeared to start near the center of the house and looked electrical in nature.
- Neighbors described the couple as in their late 70s and said the woman used a walker, and they also reported the husband had recently installed do-it-yourself solar panels that neighbors suspect may be related to the blaze.
- Glendale police and fire officials say the investigation is active, investigators will continue examining wiring and other evidence, and officials expect to release more information as analysis proceeds.
