Overview
- EHC Red Bull München, which confirmed the exits Friday, set a course for a roster shake-up after the playoff semifinal loss to Adler Mannheim.
- Along with longtime defenseman Konrad Abeltshauser, Dillon Heatherington, Alberts Smits, Nikolaus Heigl, Vadim Schreiner and Simon Wolf will leave the club.
- Abeltshauser won four titles in Germany’s top league (DEL) in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2023 and logged 571 league and 63 Champions Hockey League games, the second-most in club history after Maximilian Kastner.
- Sporting director Christian Winkler praised him as a role model and thanked him for “ten years of honesty, passion and dedication,” and Abeltshauser told fans in a video that his time in Munich had to end.
- The club did not announce his next team, and separate talks continue with forward Adam Brooks about his future.
