Egremont Man Charged After Cleator Moor Crash Kills Grandmother

Police are seeking dashcam, CCTV and doorbell footage to establish whether the motorbike was travelling in a convoy with two quad bikes.

Overview

  • A 76-year-old woman from Cleator Moor died and her grandchild suffered a serious head injury after they were struck by a motorbike while crossing Ennerdale Road on Tuesday.
  • Kieran Yorke, 22, of Woodend, Egremont, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and other offences and appeared at magistrates’ court facing four counts including causing serious injury and driving while uninsured and unlicensed.
  • Yorke was granted bail with strict conditions that include living at an alternative West Cumbria address, an electronically monitored night curfew, a ban on driving on public roads and no contact with prosecution witnesses.
  • Two other men arrested in the initial inquiry have been released on bail as Cumbria Police continue to appeal for witnesses and for any dashcam, CCTV or doorbell footage relating to incident number 217 of 26 May.
  • The causing-death-by-dangerous-driving charge is indictable only and Yorke is due to appear at Carlisle Crown Court on June 26 for a plea and trial preparation hearing, which could lead to a fuller Crown Court trial.
