EFI Defends Sending Harassment-Accused Official to Tent Pegging Qualifiers in Jordan

Government scrutiny intensifies following a safety complaint to the sport’s global body.

Overview

  • The International Tent Pegging Federation wrote to EFI after a parent’s complaint about athlete safety and, according to reports, barred Col (Retd) Tarsem Singh Warraich from a judges’ course at the Jordan event.
  • The Sports Ministry issued a show-cause notice citing prolonged noncompliance with the National Sports Development Code, gave EFI 15 days to respond, and noted FEI warnings about possible disaffiliation.
  • A ministry official said EFI took the team to Jordan without required government approval after SAI sought selection and event details.
  • Team selection for the qualifiers was chaotic with no trials held, contradictory probables lists, an attempted withdrawal that drew a penalty notice, and a late revised entry naming Warraich as manager-cum-coach.
  • Warraich faces a 2023 FIR alleging sexual harassment and related offences, is out on interim bail with conditions, and he denies the allegations, stating no court order bars his travel or duties.
