EFCC Says It Has Dismissed More Than 40 Staff for Corruption

Chairman Ola Olukoyede says the firings are part of a push to rebuild the agency’s credibility by pairing internal discipline with large-scale prosecutions and asset recoveries

The commission disclosed on Monday that Olukoyede has ordered the dismissal of over 40 EFCC employees for alleged corruption and financial misconduct since he became chairman in October 2023.
More than five of the dismissed staff are already facing prosecution in court and additional case files are being prepared for other former employees.
As part of internal reforms the EFCC renamed its Department of Internal Affairs the Department of Ethics and Integrity and introduced a gift and asset-declaration policy, though the agency did not give the policy’s value thresholds.
The agency presented enforcement figures for the Oct. 1, 2023–June/July 2026 review period: about 49,673 petitions received, 39,615 investigations, 14,476 court filings, roughly 10,872 convictions and recoveries of N1.23 trillion plus $684.48 million, £373,905.78 and €9.34 million.
Officials said the recoveries helped mobilise revenue—about N288.1 billion in federal and state tax recoveries—and promised further prosecutions and court-tracked cases that will test the agency’s stated push to restore public trust.
