Overview
- Edmunds' August 18 EV Range Test recorded the 2027 Tesla Model Y L traveling 358 miles on a single charge, roughly 10–12% higher than Tesla’s listed 320–325 miles.
- Tesla currently lists the Model Y L at 320 miles with 20-inch wheels and 325 miles with 19-inch wheels, and the company has not yet submitted the model for an official EPA range rating.
- Edmunds attributes the surplus range to a low drag coefficient of about 0.216, a glass roof that admits roughly 30% less solar energy which cuts cabin cooling load, and an expanded battery pack of about 83 kWh.
- The Model Y L weighs about 300 pounds more than the Long Range Launch Series, borrows a more powerful rear motor, seats six in a 2+2+2 layout, and is being built at Gigafactory Texas with the Launch Series priced near $61,990.
- While the L’s 358-mile real-world result makes it the longest-range Model Y Edmunds has tested, rivals with much larger battery packs still post longer absolute ranges and some buyers will weigh third-row usability, charging time and rebate eligibility in their purchase decisions.
