Overview
- Police were alerted to a potentially suspicious package at about 6.50pm on Friday and ordered a precautionary evacuation that put a cordon and road closures in place while Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams attended.
- Specialist teams investigated overnight and the airport announced it had reopened at around 3am on Saturday after areas of the terminal were cleared.
- Police later confirmed EOD had made the item(s) safe and that the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
- Flight operations were disrupted on Friday evening with several inbound planes held or diverted to nearby airports, notably Glasgow, and some passengers were kept on aircraft while ground access was restricted.
- Ground transport was affected by road closures and rerouted bus and tram stops and travellers are being asked to check with their airlines because knock-on delays and long queues are expected throughout Saturday.
