- EDF announced the Heatwave Relief Packs on Wednesday as a £1 million programme designed to reach up to 10,000 vulnerable UK customers with support worth up to £100 per household.
- Each tailored pack may include energy‑efficient desk or pedestal fans, handheld or neck fans, thermal blackout curtains, reflective window film, cooling towels, a reusable water bottle and up to £20 of electricity credit or vouchers.
- Distribution will be run with social impact group Charis and SHINE London, with EDF identifying recipients via its support teams, referrals from community organisations and direct customer outreach.
- EDF said the move responds to rising heat-health alerts and concerns that higher energy costs are deterring people from using cooling devices, a problem made sharper by Ofgem’s price-cap rise in early July.
- Official UKHSA data cited by EDF show 1,311 heat-associated deaths in England in summer 2024 and more than 10,000 since 2020, which the company says underscores the need for year-round support as hot summers become more frequent.
